The condenser's 1 inch Diameter-30 foot long cupronickel 9010 and Al-6X stainless steel tubes provided the optimal "proving Ground" to test the performance of PSR's new DS tube system on a large scale project.

Improvements in design to our HD Collet Pullers and HD Extractors and integration of the best available tube cutting and chopping technologies delivered the desired results. As expected, higher production rates, lower consumable use and replacement cost as measured by our feild technicains were achieved. In addition we are confident with the increased power to the extractor motors and high capacity hydraulic pumps that the DS system now produces the highest pulling forces without sacrificing the tube travel speed in the industry.

ST Petersburg, FL.

Prior to demolition of the plants superstructure two seprate pulling crews/pulling lines extracted 23,500 Cupronickel tubes and 18,300 SEA-CURE high chromium stainless steel tubes over a period of 5 weeks. Removal of the front water boxes and use of gas powered man lifts to lift the men into position against the tube sheet greatly expedited pulling production of the extra long tubes.

The detubing work was part of a larger demolition project being undertaken by Frontier Industrial Corp. of Buffalo,New York. PSR jointly participated in the project by providing all necessary process tube removal tools, support equipment, tool technicians and supervision oversight to facilitate Frontier's labor crew in the extraction, chopping ,weighing and packaging of the 41,800 scrap tubes.

In July of 2010 PSR completed extraction of brass tubes and tube sheets from unit 4 condenser at the Victoria Power Station. For years little recovery value was offered for the retired split condenser heavily laden with shells and river silt with its water boxes subject to flooding due to faulty inlet valves and was deemed near impossible to reclaim.

In May of 2010 PSR presented a purchase offer and reclamation/rigging plan to the owner and plant operator NAES and was awarded a contract to install binds prevent flooding, cleaning the 30 foot tubes, followed by hydraulic extraction of the tubes and tube sheets. The non-standard preparation work included building rigging systems to float and roll four 20 ton cover plates 50 yards to the crane bay, fabricating and installing inlet blinds, shooting 10,000 cleaning projectiles with high volume water pumps at 400 psi to remove 30 cubic yards of debris from inside the tubes, removal of 20,000 RTV plastic sleeves and plugs. During tube extraction 20 % of the tubes snapped due to severe erosion/corrosion and were removed using a proprietary method “wet chipping” to prevent release of zinc, copper and arsenic particulates into the operational plant.

Using a unique set of processes and procedures PSR completed the project on schedule and delivered the true intrinsic value sought by the owner.

Prior to plating the inlet and outlet pipes river water flooded the condenser for 8 years depositing a mud ,silt and shells within the tubes. PSR used high a pressure water system to propel plastic and metal projectiles through 1 " diameter tubes. Nearly 10 cubic yards of debris was removed and hoisted from the pit with the OH crane.

Removal of the 10 ton doors required modification to the upper decks and the special fabrication of rigging beams and trolleys to float the doors from under a low clearance ceiling out to the pit shaft for a direct pick by OH crane . PSR worked close with plant engineers to design a rigging plan and establish safety protocols. Not one of our bigger projects but the most challenging to date.

Power Systems Recovery recently received a pricing inquiry from a power plant owner planning to undergo a partial deactivation in mid 2009 and full retirement and demolition in 2012 The owner requested PSR to provide a reclamation based valuation. We conducted a survey that resulted in an offer to purchase the condenser’s & feed water heater’s copper-nickel alloy tubes and copper bus bar for $650,000. The generators where excluded from the survey until they could be certified to be asbestos free.

The owner had flexibility to sell the high valued components now or wait until demolition and asked for the following input to compete their evaluation.

Our assets have high a content of copper. At what price level would you recommend selling near term? We do not speculate on the price direction of copper or other non ferrous metals but do monitor the market to identify opportunities to sell and lock prices.

Can you offer a firm price today with plant access out 6 months? Yes, PSR can provide firm fixed pricing for plant deliveries up to12 months out. Typically we make a significant non-refundable deposit or discounted payment in full upon entering in to a purchase contract. Our purchase commitments are protected by taking up a short futures position to hedge the underlying metal against a drop in price. We routinely hedge copper, nickel and zinc if we are purchasing a large quantity of brass.

We’re considering incorporating the equipment into demolition contract to offset the project’s cost. Will we receive the same value? If you have the demolition contractors price the project with and without the condensers/exchangers and compare the net result you can expect a significant increase in value or reduction in project costs by utilizing PSR' services. Our ability to pay more is no secret. Hydraulic extraction as compared to conventional torch and big shear salvage methods is more cost-efficient and yields a higher quality form of scrap that can be marketed directly to smelters or brass mills.

Why should we sell our retired assets in 2009 rather than in 2012? Your able to discern a value and monetize these assets today and all things being equal, it is better to have money now rather than later. For example $650,000. invested in the present at 10% compounded annually for 3 years would grow to a future value of $ $ 865,150. and increase of $265,150. Conversely, the metal value for the same assets in 2012 would have to be $850,000. to equal a present value of a 650,000 at a 10% discount rate.

If the generators are asbestos free we may want to market them for reuse. Can you extract the condenser tubes? Yes, the tubes can be recovered with out damage to the tube sheets or shell. This will reduce freight weight and prepare the units to be retubed at the prospective buyer’s new site.

In short, the advantages to the owner of selling condensers and other high value assets to PSR upon retirement include; maximizing present value, quickly monetizing assets and the time value of money.

Initially our services will be marketed in Canada, Australia and the select countries of Europe or the Middle East where PSR's technology and expertise will provide distinct advantages to the customer in terms of reduced project cost and duration.

We will also place a focus on large desalination facilities located in the Middle East where there has been strong interest for our services from both Multi-Stage Flash Distillation (MSF) and Multiple Effect Distillation (MED) type plants. These plants utilize evaporator/ condenser, preheaters and other heat exchangers containing high grade stainless steel, cooper-nickel, titanium, and aluminum-brass tubes. In Saudi Arabia alone there are 27 existing plants producing more than 80% of the Kingdoms water needs. Many of these large plants also generate electricity which presents a dual opportunity for PSR to offer an array of heat transfer equipment services.
PSR does this job exceedingly well by creating a 4 inch flattened tube "chop" that is Ideal as a "mill ready" bulk feed stock . In 2009 we will invest in an inner tube cleaning process to reduce the degree of contamination inside the tube well below the 1% level stipulated by most buyers. When unacceptable levels of fouling are encountered in condenser tubes a process will be deployed that primarily uses pressurized water to push a coiled brush through the tube to remove organic scales, mud, silt, algae, iron oxide chips and other obstructions.

The combination of thoroughly cleaning the tubes, creating a highly desirable tube chop product and selling that product directly to the mill allows PSR to receive a premium price which in turn will translates into premium prices being offered it's Power Plant customers.
